Connecticut Poet Laureate reads in Blodgett House

Marilyn Nelson, Connecticut Poet Laureate can "weave history and culture in stories," and demonstrated this ability on September 20, in the first reading of the Poetry and Fiction Series. Read more.
Tanya Marcuse ('81) nominated for REAL Photography Award
Alumna and Faculty Member in Photography Tanya Marcuse is currently a nominee for a major international photography prize, the REAL Photography Award. The recognition comes for her latest project Fruitless, photographs that memorialize fruit trees on land endangered by development. Read more.
Oxford Study Abroad Program
Simon's Rock students will participate in a unique study abroad program at Lincoln College, Oxford University. A Senior Tutor from Lincoln College visited Simon's Rock in September. Read more.
Mark Fischetti, author of "Drowning New Orleans," speaks about protection of vulnerable coastal areas; first in series
An editor for Scientific American magazine, Fischetti had predicted the devastating hurricane in an article titled "Drowning New Orleans." Invited by faculty member Christopher Coggins, Fischetti spoke to a crowd in Fisher Center's Clark Auditorium. His visit was the first in a series on New Orleans. Later in October, a related exhibit will open, and in November, a full afternoon and evening of events will deal with many aspects of life in New Orleans. Read more.
Honoring Eileen Handelman
The Simon's Rock community will honor Eileen Handelman's contribution to the life of this campus with a Memorial Service on Sunday, October 21 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, in Kellogg Music Center. Luncheon to follow at Blodgett House. RSVP to Audrey Kalman at 650-342-2890 or kalman@earthlink.net

Gifts made in memory of Eileen will be added to the Eileen T. Handelman Scholarship Fund which supports a returning student who has done outstanding work in the Division of Science, Mathematics, and Computing.

South Berkshire Concert Series
Faculty member Larry Wallach recounts the history of the series

For 35 years the South Berkshire Concert Series has been enjoyed by Simon's Rock and the local community. The Series has provided quality music performances at no cost for the Simon's Rock community and relatively low cost for the public. Larry Wallach, Livingston Hall Chair of Music and the organizer of the concert series, recounts his first involvement in the series. Read more.
Soccer Teams
When Public Affairs Assistant Shanna Gregory went to take photos of the soccer team, they asked her if she wanted to play. A high school soccer player, Gregory hadn't planned on it. Before she joined the team on the field, she did take a few pictures. See Soccer Photos.
